Welcome to the DIY Feature!
“DIY” is a feature designed to provide users with a fun, educational, and personalized experience in creating customized furniture. My role involved leading the concept design and optimizing the end-to-end user experience within the gameplay.
Research & Analysis
To guide the design direction, I organized research findings into structured spreadsheets, defining furniture categories and key attributes. I also analyzed existing room designs in 3D environments to establish standard furniture dimensions. This groundwork provided the team with clear alignment before moving into production.
Concept Exploration
To develop effective and scalable concepts, I prioritized the following principles:
•  Maintain realism and logical structure without overcomplicating technical details
•  Ensure each step is visually clear and engaging
•  Reuse core assets where possible, applying variations through color changes or repairs
•  Collaborate closely with 3D artists and engineers to keep the decision tree manageable and technically feasible
Color Scheme & Style Guide
For materials and color selection, I adopted a neutral visual style to align with the existing game environment. This ensures that DIY furniture integrates seamlessly into different room designs and maintains visual consistency.
Playtesting
After 3D assets were implemented in-game, I conducted usability checks to ensure the experience was intuitive and fluid. I also reviewed visual details—such as lighting, shadows, and proportions—and provided feedback to the 3D team to maintain high quality standards.
UI Implementation
I worked on UI thumbnail assets within Unity, using in-engine cameras to capture optimal angles for each item. I also ensured proper placement within the interface, preventing visual overlap with key UI elements (e.g., avoiding obstruction of CTA buttons) and maintaining a clean, user-friendly layout.
